Samuel, an up-and-coming artist signed to Columbia Records, packed Bowery Electric on Wednesday night for a short but awesome set. His debut LP comes out this spring, but until then, keep close to his twitter for updates.

Oddisee is a D.C. based rapper and producer, and unlike the thousands of other dudes who do this, he’s good. His beats are built around crate-dug soul samples, furnishing that organic sound our ears yearn for. Below are two cuts from the
Mental Liberation EP, “Hip Hop’s Cool Again” and the instrumental of “Cold For That.” He also recently dropped a
24-track instrumental album that’s a must have for any hip-hop fan.

The White Rabbits always wow me, and their sold out show at the Bowery Ballroom made me feel like a teenager at my first concert. All of their tunes are highly recommended, and you can purchase them on iTunes or download some for free from RCRD LBL. Photos are on behalf of RCRD LBL.

The Black Seeds are easily my favorite modern reggae act, with dub and rock elements to keep things progressive. They recently released a compilation of live tracks in December (Live: Vol 1), and we have a fresh cut from that, plus another infectious tune from their 2008 release Solid Ground. This 9-piece band is always on the road, and you lucky New Zealand dwellers can catch them live in the upcoming weeks.

Last night I was lucky to catch actor/MC Mos Def at Highline Ballroom, plus a couple surprise guests. P. Diddy, Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, and opener DJ Preservation went in, rocking the crowd close to 3am. Photos are on behalf of RCRD LBL.
